DELUXE JUNK.

The ''Trucs du chinois'' refer to (industrial) ''tableaux'' you can generally find in chinese retaurants or in fast-foods. They are light boxes (originally for use in advertising - neon signs- and very often used in contemporary photography) with a mechanism that moves some filters between the light source and the back-lit picture. This gives a kinetic effect, providing the object with a kind of magic.

IDYLLIC SCENERY.

these ''tableaux''- photomontages - touched up photographs - usually represent exotic landscapes : luxurious nature with azured skies and watered downs, sometimes with a water fall. By replacing these exotic scenes by council blocks, waste lands and other views of the outskirts, and by keeping only the waterfall as an element of the landscape, BBE recreates a utopian project: the "villes nouvelle" and their idyllic living environment.

''the chinese stuff'' combines kitch decoration and low-tech systems. It belongs to a cheap category of decoration like posters of panoramic views of Manhattan or mountains in Kabylia at sunset.

PACOTILLE DELUXE.

Les Trucs du chinois font référence aux " tableaux " (de fabrication industrielle) qu'on trouve généralement dans les restaurants chinois et autres établissements de restauration rapide. Ce sont des caissons lumineux (à l'origine c'est un procédé publicitaire -enseignes lumineuses- dont la photographie contemporaine est grande consommatrice) auquels sont ajoutés des mécanismes produisant des mouvements de caches entre la source lumineuse et l'image rétro éclairée. Il s'en dégage un effet cinétique qui confère à l'objet une sorte de magie.

CADRE IDYLIQUE.

Normalement, ces tableaux -photographies retouchées, photomontages- représentent des paysages exotiques : vues de nature luxuriante, surplombées d'un ciel d'azur et baignées d'une étendue d'eau, parfois agrémentées d'une cascade. En remplaçant ces décors exotiques par des grands ensembles architecturaux, des no man's lands et autres horizons péri-urbains dans les compositions, où seuls subsistent les étendues d'eau qui baignent les paysages, BBE tourne en dérision un projet urbain utopique: les villes nouvelles.

Le truc du chinois combine décoration kitch et procédé low-tech. Le truc du chinois appartient à une catégorie " cheap " de la décoration qui regrouperait : posters panoramiques de vues de Manathan, au coucher du soleil ou des montagnes de Kabylie.
